Motivation
Across multiple product lines, engineers and managers used different identifiers to refer to the same job — serial numbers, order numbers, model classifications, customer names. Depending on who you were talking to, any one of these might come up, and cross-referencing them meant digging through different systems. It added up to a surprising amount of wasted time throughout the day.
Implementation
A single Excel workbook with one input field. Type in whatever identifier you have — serial number, order number, machine designation, customer name — and macros look across the intranet to find the corresponding records and surface everything on one sheet: machine details, classification, and all associated order numbers. For customer name lookups, the most recent machine is returned. The tool spread quickly across departments once people saw how much time it saved.
